Salted Brownie Cake

Salted Brownie Cake

Ingredients for cake:

2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup water
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda

Ingredients for frosting:

1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
4 tablespoons cocoa
6 tablespoons milk
16 ounces powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions for cake:

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.  Grease a jelly role cookie sheet pan. 

Sift the flour and sugar into a mixing bowl. 

In a medium saucepan, add the butter, water and cocoa. Bring to a boil. 

Once boiling, immediately add to the flour/sugar mixture and mix until creamy. 

Add the eggs, baking soda, cinnamon and buttermilk.  Mix again until creamy.  

Pour into the prepared jelly roll pan. 

Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. 

Instructions for frosting (begin when cake has 5 to 10 minutes left to cook):

Add the powdered sugar and vanilla to a mixing bowl.

Melt and bring to a boil the butter, milk and cocoa.   Once boiling, immediately add to the powdered sugar/vanilla mixture and beat until creamy. 

Once the cake is removed from the oven, immediately pour the frosting onto the cake.  Use an off-set spatula to spread the frosting over the cake. 

Sprinkle the Essential Sea Salt on top of the cake.
